A great symbol about the destruction of our very old earth, thousands of years old, or called the global catastrophe, is symbolized by the name of Doomsday Clock. It's a metaphor for threatening our humanity from unchecked scientific and technical advances. The main factors are nuclear risk and global warming. The Doomsday Clock origin comes from the international group researches called Chicago Atomic Scientist was first presented in 1947 after the apprehension of the tragedy atomic bomb of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Meanwhile the other factor is global warming, caused by carbon monoxide from the increasing number of oil-fueled vehicles, burning fuels from factories, and deforestation.
Our discussion topic today is degradation of our main oxygen source, deforestation caused by fire. In Indonesia, second largest forest country in world, mostly happened the forest fires did by large industry company. Then it's for planting oil palm. The most memorable tragic moment happened in Riau, the dense haze of forest fires covers the skies of Sumatera, Singapore and Malaysia. These months moment even deeply embarassed Indonesia reputation to the neighbors, because this forest is empowered only by extreme exploitation by a group of factions. And latest news we know that even South Korea industrial factories exploited the forest land of Papua, the average size fires land is the size of their capital city. That is such a big unfairness natural resource exploitation again in Papua, another one great example of PT Freeport, owned by United States. Because they are the leading developed countries which have the most advanced early creation technology, they need the natural resource which limit in their country, then they have business contract in our country to exploit the free nature resource. Below this will explain furthermore the causes and effects of fired forest, especially happening case in Indonesia.
The forest fires not only caused by peatland, extreme prolonged drought, and thunder. But we are the human, our species that have just been living for 12 million years in earth which estimated hundreds of billions of years old. From the perspective environment, there are many species that already extinct because our dominant arrival. Go back to the reason why, the main caused forest fires is burning land for oil palm plantations, why should palm oil, simply because it is very cheap, and its utilization is very multifunctional. For example is for basic ingredients of cuisine, food, and cosmetics. Then the forest starts to burn acres. Thus case could be named as Indonesia for sale for other countries, the another effect of global catastrophe.
What the effects from fired forest is great smoke covered skies in Sumatera, Singapore, and Malaysia. The air polluted made sky conducts carbon dioxyde (CO²), carbone monoxyde (CO), nitrogen oxyde (NO), sulfur dioxyde (SO²), which are the chemicals we don't need to take breath. The other particulate matter ash, chemical such as akrolein, formaldehid, benzene, dyoksine, etc. also danger our respiratory system. The various disease arise immediately, ISPA is the most significant and commonly affected. The another harmful is lung cancer. Many suffers are children, it made schools are closed in the end. Daily activities are very disturbed, people must rarely leave the house, if for urgent needs only and must wear a mask. Visibility is very limited, very dangerous driving transportation. Several international flights were also closed.
The position of our country become the nature resource provider and we only watch it's just the another shape of unfairness. Well, our country have colonized by the western countries for centuries. Really, the longest Dutch colonialism was misleading, fooling, torturing, and physically exploiting the privilege and the natural resources. Now we have few examples polite colonialism, in eastern Indonesia, the land of left development behind. If we can take the self responsibilities for our nature, we may be the higher industry production country. Countries with greater production, more advanced economic growth (gross and net domestic product), higher per capita income (so that people's welfare is getting better and more equitable).
The simply cause and effects from fired deforestation which in Indonesia case may only explained in five paragraphs above. But really not close the million possibilities from the other sides. This forest fire case will always cause a long interesting debate that will not stop. Because it's a life which we face the inevitability between the characteristic of our species, human with unlimited life necessities and the global degradation. We fight for humanity survives and we fight for keep the sustain nature which the ecosystem must stay alive.
